Endless Holiday Fun in Muskegon
Here in Muskegon, we know how to ring in the holiday season with flair. While you're staying with us at The Pidge Inn in December, you can partake in countless exciting events and activities throughout our lakeside city that will get you in the yuletide spirit – all within minutes of our festive boutique inn. Ho, ho, ho... let's go!
For lovers of the theatre and the arts, you'll want to start by reserving your ticket for one of the upcoming holiday performances at the Frauenthal Center. Now in its 37th season, "America's Tallest Singing Christmas Tree" takes the stage for multiple shows December 1-3, with 200 performers standing in a 67-foot tree covered with more than 25,000 lights! The Muskegon Civic Theatre performs the hysterical madcap comedy "Inspector Carol" with shows running December 1-4. On December 16, the West Michigan Symphony performs seasonal favorites at its "Home for the Holidays" concert. On December 17, the West Michigan Youth Ballet tells the story of Clara and her magical friends in "The Nutcracker."
From the performing arts to the visual arts, the Muskegon Museum of Art offers free admission every Thursday in December, providing guests a no-charge opportunity to see world-class art in West Michigan. The museum has partnered with Downtown Muskegon for the Festival of Wreaths, where artist-designed wreaths are on display at businesses throughout the city until December 11. The goal is to inspire the holiday spirit and encourage people to explore downtown Muskegon during the holiday season. To learn how to craft your own holiday wreath, check out the wreath-making workshop on December 7 at Wahine, a fun boutique on Lakeshore Drive.
See a bit of Muskegon history all dressed up for the holidays with a tour of the Hackley and Hume historic homes. These Victorian houses date back to the late 1800s and are beautifully preserved to tell the story of Muskegon's past to future generations. In December, tours are offered on Saturdays as well as two weeknights between Christmas and New Year's. From there, walk a few blocks along West Webster Avenue to Hackley Park for caroling, coffee and cocoa on December 17 and 23.
You'll no doubt want to do some holiday shopping while you're in town. The Holiday Sip and Shop on December 2 at the Muskegon Country Club is a great place to snag the perfect gifts for under the tree while you sip on wine and nibble on hors d’oeuvres. The annual Holidays in Lakeside will take place December 3, where you can not only shop at merchants in Muskegon's Lakeside district but also take carriage rides, visit with Santa, listen to carolers and see a tree lighting. Have a comics lover on your Christmas list this year? Then don't miss the Comic Book Show at The Lakes Mall on December 17, hosted by Lange's Comics & Collectibles.
OK, foodies, it's your turn. Every Saturday in December, the Muskegon Farmers Market hosts its winter vendors – from seasonal produce and meats to locally roasted coffee to fresh baked goods and more. You'll also find evergreen wreaths and garland to trim your home for the holidays. The farmers market is the first stop on Muskegon's Cookie Crawl on December 10. Pick up your cookie tin at the market, then make your way through participating downtown businesses and collect cookies along the way. How delicious!
Want to learn how to make a show-stopping charcuterie board for your family and friends at your next holiday gathering? Take a charcuterie class on December 8 at the Muskegon Market and Mercantile, presented by Late to the Lake. Hungry families with young children won't want to miss Brunch with Santa at Lake Bluff Grille on December 17. Enjoy a delicious buffet, cookie decorating and a hot chocolate bar, and don’t forget to get your photo taken with Kris Kringle himself!
Feeling a little sporty? Catch a USHL hockey game at Trinity Health Arena on December 10 to see the Muskegon Lumberjacks take on the Chicago Steel. It's North Pole Night and Santa will be taking a short break from his workshop to visit the game and cheer on the home team. If you want to lace up some skates and hit the ice yourself, check out the Muskegon Luge & Sports Complex. As soon as the weather conditions are right, the complex will open its ice rink for a little pond hockey action. Plus, a one-of-a-kind ice skating trail takes you on a 1/4-mile figure-eight loop through the white pine forest. The trail is about 5 feet wide with smooth ice and is lighted every night.
Phew! With so much to choose from, how will you decide where to start? We're happy to offer suggestions when you book your December stay with us at The Pidge Inn. No matter how you decide to celebrate the season in Muskegon, we know you'll make holiday memories to last a lifetime.
