The Lakeside District is a vibrant area of Muskegon along the southern coast of beautiful Muskegon Lake. It's home to an eclectic mix of gift and specialty shops, galleries, marinas, taverns, restaurants, and more. The Lakeside District is home to the Muskegon terminal of the Lake Express high-speed ferry, which shuttles people and vehicles across Lake Michigan to and from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The crossing takes 2-1/2 hours, cutting hours off of a typical trip around Lake Michigan through Chicago's traffic congestion.
The Lakeshore Trail bike path, which goes through the Lakeside District, is a great way to explore the area and enjoy the wonders of nature along Muskegon Lake. Lake Bluff Grille at the Muskegon Country Club offers New-American cuisine and breathtaking views of Muskegon Lake and is about 5 minutes from The Pidge Inn. The 1950s retro Diner on Hackley serves up one of the best burgers in Michigan. Besides offering fantastic food, both the Wonderland Distilling Co. and Marine Tap Room participate in Lakeside's social district, which allows patrons to purchase an alcoholic drink and walk about the sidewalks and gathering spaces.
The business-led Lakeside Neighborhood Association focuses its efforts on business promotion and community development. It funds free summer concerts at McGraft Park in July and August, with live performances from country, rock and jazz musicians. In May, the association hosts Spring Into Lakeside, a community festival with live music, merchant specials and family-friendly activities. Holidays in Lakeside in early December is a traditional Christmas celebration that includes carriage rides, visits with Santa, and food and beverages from Lakeside establishments.
